The First Express Entry Draw Of The Year 2018

By January 11, 2018 August 19th, 2019 No Comments

The first Express Entry draw in 2018 is of 446 points, which is 22 points less than the first Express Entry draw in 2017.
As a result of the most recent draw that was held on the 10th of January, 2018, 2,750 Express Entry candidates received an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency in Canada. The cut off Comprehensive Ranking System (CSR) score for this draw was the same as the one for the previous draw (held on December 20th), 446.

Similar to the last draw, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) relied on the tie break rule to pick the finalists of the draw. For this one, IRCC decided on November 18, 2017 at 1:30:42 EST as the tie break time and date, meaning all those who applied prior to the formerly mentioned date and time and achieved at least 446 as their CSR score were sent an ITA.

During the first half of 2017, there were a total of 16 draws held during which a significant drop in the CSR cut-off score was noticed as it went from being 468 for the first draw of the year (held in January) to, as low as, 413 for the one in May. The CSR cut-off score was brought down by an entire 55 points, which massively increased the number of eligible candidates and ITAs sent out by IRCC.

Therefore, it is safe to predict that the first half of 2018 will be quite a busy one for Canada’s Express Entry System as well.

Over the course of 2017, Canada set a new record within the Express Entry System as just for its three economic immigration categories, Canada increased its target admissions by 3,200. It is apparent that this year, Canadian Immigration will be extremely busy, if not the busiest, as Canada has raised its Express Entry targets for the new year, 2018, especially by increasing the targets of Family Class and Provincial Nominee Program.
